وقّع روبن دياز عقدًا جديدًا لمدة أربع سنوات ليؤكد التزامه بمستقبله مع مانشستر سيتي.

المدافع كان جزءًا أساسيًا من نجاحاتنا الأخيرة، وهذا الاتفاق الجديد سيبقيه في النادي حتى صيف عام 2029.

انضم دياز إلى السيتي في سبتمبر 2020 قادمًا من نادي طفولته بنفيكا، ومنذ ذلك الحين أصبح صخرة في قلب دفاعنا.

خاض دياز أكثر من 200 مباراة مع مانشستر سيتي وحقق عشرة ألقاب خلال مواسمه الخمسة في ملعب الاتحاد، من بينها أربعة ألقاب للدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز ودوري أبطال أوروبا، بالإضافة إلى مجموعة من الجوائز الفردية خلال هذا الطريق.

وقال اللاعب البالغ من العمر 28 عامًا: “أنا سعيد للغاية اليوم، أشعر بفخر كبير لتمثيل هذا النادي العظيم، السيتي هو المكان الذي أريد أن أكون فيه – في قمة اللعبة، أتنافس على البطولات، طموح النادي يتماشى تمامًا مع طموحي، وكلاعب كرة قدم لا يوجد أفضل من ذلك”.

وأضاف: أحب مانشستر – فهي منزلي الآن – وأحب جماهير مانشستر سيتي، دعمهم منذ اليوم الأول كان مذهلًا للغاية، وأنا أقدّرهم كثيرًا”.

وأكد: “عندما أفكر في البطولات التي حققناها والطريقة التي لعبنا بها خلال فترتي هنا، لا أستطيع أن أتخيل نفسي ألعب في أي مكان آخر”.

وكشف دياز: “مهمتي الآن أن أكون في أفضل صورة طوال فترة هذا العقد، حتى أساهم في مساعدتنا على المنافسة من أجل المزيد من الألقاب”.

وأشار: “أود أن أشكر زملائي، بيب، هوجو، الطاقم التدريبي وكل من في النادي، هذا مكان استثنائي، وأنا ممتن كل يوم للدعم الذي أحصل عليه”.

وأخيرًا قال: “الآن يبدأ العمل الجاد، وأريد أن أعد الجماهير بأنني سأبذل كل ما في وسعي للفوز بالمزيد من البطولات وجلب مزيد من النجاحات للسيتي”.

وقال هوجو فيانا، المدير الرياضي للنادي: “كنا متحمسين للغاية كإدارة لأن روبن وقّع عقدًا جديدًا وأكد التزامه طويل المدى بالنادي”.

وأضاف: “عمله الجاد واحترافيته وتفانيه واضحة لنا جميعًا كل يوم، هو قائد داخل غرفة الملابس وعلى أرض الملعب، إنه أحد قادتنا، اللاعبون يستمعون إليه، وبيب والطاقم التدريبي يحبون العمل معه، إنه محترف بكل ما تعنيه الكلمة”.

وأوضح: “أداءه على مدار السنوات الخمس الماضية كان مذهلًا، وهو سبب رئيسي وراء نجاحاتنا، في كل مرة يرتدي فيها روبن قميص السيتي، يعطي كل ما لديه من أجل الشعار، ونحن سعداء للغاية لبقائه معنا في السنوات الأربع المقبلة”.

The impact that Ruben Dias has made since he moved to the Etihad in September 2020 has been remarkable.

He arrived when football was still be playing behind closed doors during the Covid-19 pandemic and helped turned City back into champions.

In fact, he would only know what it would like to be a Premier League winner for his first four years at the Club and as we begin our journey to reclaim the crown, his mentality and experience is exactly what’s needed in the dressing room.

Dias made his City debut in a 1-1 draw at Leeds, a week after a 5-2 defeat to Leicester in our first Premier League home game of the 2020/21 season.

He was named City’s Player of the Month in November at the start of 28-game unbeaten run on the way to the title, a League Cup and a place in the Champions League final in his native Portugal.

By the end of the campaign, the defender had been crowned Premier League Player of the Season, the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year and City’s Player of the Year.

He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year, something he would achieve again in the 2022/23 season.

But for all the individual awards that Dias has collected, it is as a team member where he is vital, prepared to put his body on the line in order to help his side to chase victory and driving his team-mates forward into every battle.

The Portuguese international has never given less than 100% in his 223 appearances for the Club, and it’s exactly that commitment and desire which is why he has been tied down to a new long-term deal.

Winning four Premier League titles in a row had never been an achieved by an English men’s side before Pep Guardiola’s team claimed the record with success built on the likes of Dias’ grit and determination.

Of course, the Treble-winning side will go down in history forever and the centre-back made a huge contribution in that campaign, starting those huge Premier League games home and away to closest rivals Arsenal rivals as well as the FA Cup triumph over Manchester United.

And he played in every minute of the knockout stages on our way to Champions League success as we remained unbeaten on our way past RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid and then that epic night against Inter.

Goals don’t come along too often, although he can count himself unlucky that his 20-yard strike against Aston Villa in December 2021 was overshadowed by Bernardo Silva’s stunning volley to round off a sumptuous team move.

But Dias’ main assets are defending and leadership and that’s where he truly excels and why City fans will be overjoyed that he will be with us for another four years.
